Eyecarrot at Exponential Medicine 2016
It’s hard to believe a whole year has gone by since our first participation in Exponential Medicine’s Innovation Lab in 2015, including our selection to compete for the MEDy Awards. Since then, we have fine-tuned our course after a lot of work to better understand the true needs of our customers, and now we find ourselves on the verge of going live on the Apple and Google App Stores in the coming weeks. As a Canadian company in a global marketplace, its great to have the support of @ZaynaKhayat, @MaRSDD as well as @DeloitteUS who have all helped us along this journey. Thank you!
Before I share my highlights from Exponential Medicine 2016, here’s a quick recap of what we shared with attendees at the conference about our upcoming launch..
Our Binovi Pro and Binovi Coach apps will facilitate a personalized, one-on-one approach to treating vision performance issues that affect so many people around the world — people with concussions, vision-related learning issues, as well as age-related vision performance challenges. In addition, our platform will enable professionals and individuals to enhance their vision performance in areas such as sports, learning, and demanding physical and cognitive tasks. And, later this year, we will start taking pre-orders for our hardware product… a modern, connected healthcare device we are building on the strong foundations of our Wayne Saccadic Fixator, which is used by thousands of professionals in over 25 countries around the world. All of this activity will generate standardized visual performance data that has never really existed in human history. With this combination of hardware, software, and data, we believe that vision care experts are going to revolutionize what they can do to help their patients live better and healthier lives.
After a very busy 10 months this year, it was a perfect time for me to take a couple of days to step back from the demands of running a startup and take in all the brilliant speakers at Exponential Medicine 2016 who are helping to reshape Healthcare. There were so many great speakers and inspiration stories that it’s hard to choose a favourite… so, here are a few of my personal highlights from the conference:
Daniel Kraft, MD Founding Executive Director & Chair, Exponential Medicine discussed Catalyzing the Future of Healthcare. Listening to Daniel for 20 minutes is quite the experience… a brain workout like no other!
Peter Diamandis Co-Founder, Singularity University & Founder and Chair, XPRIZE spent his time on stage discussing Bold Innovation. Peter’s expertise in Medicine, Genetics and Aerospace Engineering make him the centre of attention at most speaking engagements. Peter’s recent work as Vice-Chairman and Co-Founder of @humanlongevity is quite amazing. An 8hr Medical Exam that captures over 150G of data on your health! We look forward to contributing to that data shortly with Eyecarrot.
Dr. Scott Parazynski…a highly decorated physician and astronaut, recently inducted into the US Astronaut Hall of Fame. Listening to a man who has walked the tight rope of life and death so many times is fascinating… a must follow @AstroDocScott.
Ray Kurzweil, often referred to as the heir to Thomas Edison, presented on Exponential Thinking and Future Predictions. The world he is predicting really makes you question everything you know about the world today. If he wasn’t right about his previous predictions, we would throw the baby out with the bathwater. Kurzweil was the principal inventor of the first print-to-speech reading machine for the blind, which is empowering Eyecarrot to understand what is involved with the visual system of the blind.
Naveen Jain is an entrepreneur and philanthropist driven to solve the world’s biggest challenges through innovation. Truely amazing speaker who often writes “Forget Passion you need Obsession”! Naveen spoke of Moonshots and Exponential Entreprenuership…wise words from a man who actually shot something to the moon!
And last, but by no means least, @ZaynaKhayat representing Canada, MaRS Discovery District, and aspiring Canadian entrepreneurs in Healthcare. Thank you for the shout out and well done showcasing amazing Canadian talent. Definitely check out everything Zayna and her team is reading, thinking about and sharing on their Health hub.
