Eyecarrot at ISVA

Guest Contributor

We were pleased to participate in The International Sports Vision Association’s 2nd annual show February 8th-10th, at the Zermatt Resort in Park City, Utah. Being a Platinum Sponsor of the event, we take great pride in being able to contribute to such a great association.

isva is an organization open to Optometrists, Athletic Trainers, Therapists, Physicians, and Sports Teams. The focus of the group is to aid in preventing sports vision injuries, promoting sports vision therapy, prevention and treatment of concussive injuries for athletes, and encourage the use of eye wear for athletes.

Through our journey, Eyecarrot has formed many strong relationships with athletes, industry experts and advocates. One of those is Bryce Salvador, former Captain of the New Jersey Devils of the National Hockey League (nhl), who we invited to speak at the event. Bryce’s story is a true inspiration: he embodies what it means to persevere through challenges and come out on top, not only for himself, but for the team, and his family.

Bryce was injured by a slap shot to the side of the head. After he found out that his head injury wasn’t the only issue and that his vestibular system was broken, Bryce went through intensive training and Vision Therapy. He was motivated and had a strong desire to fix the problem, dedicating about 3 hours a day rehabilitating his visual system.

After 7 months, Bryce was ready to get back into the rink, but with one request, “No special treatment”. That season, he played all 82 games and helped the New Jersey Devils reach the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals. Bryce retired from the National Hockey League in 2015. He achieved his goal of coming back to the nhl and ensured his children would be able to remember him as an nhl player.

Bryce reiterates the cliché that “you don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone”. With the help of vision therapy, he was able to overcome his obstacles, and that’s why the isva conference is so important: we are making people aware of a solution that not many knows exists.

His insights will help to shape our approach to the Sports Performance Market, and we look forward to collaborating further with isva in the future. As you know, we have a vast library of videos available on Binovi and we are working with isva to create an additional 15 to 20 high-level advanced sports vision activity videos. These videos will cater specifically to sports performance enhancement and are expected to be released in the summer of 2018.

An integral part of sports vision training is our Binovi Touch Saccadic Fixator. We were given the chance to showcase our new hardware at this year’s conference. We are excited to announce that the Binovi Touch has begun shipping to customers who pre-ordered in 2017. For those of you who tested it out, we thank you for your wonderful feedback! Seeing the Binovi Touch in action was a great experience!

Overall, the isva 2018 show was an amazing event, put on by some incredibly devoted and passionate organizers. Our thanks go out to Dr. Alex Andrich, Dr. Charles Shidlovsky, Dr. Jarrod Davies and Dr. Benoit Lombaerts on hosting a great event.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at both COVD and ICBO in April 2018!
